February 25, 2023
The Kick off meeting for the 2023 program of the Healthcare Data Innovation Council was held on February 25, 2022. This year, the discussion will focus on the emerging framework of the European Health Data Spaces and generally healthcare in the era of AI.
The HDI Council’s discussion is focused on several topics currently debated at the EU level:
- The rise of the European Healthcare Data Space generates questions about legal requirements and demands for a framework of action on how to operate in the space, especially when dealing with a cross nation research project
- The Council is a forum for exchange and possibly ideate research projects. Some members of the Council are already collaborating on a newly funded EU Horizon project called Aida. Aida is an Artificially Intelligent Diagnostic Assistant for gastric inflammation that will improve personalised medicine for patients.
- The Recovery and Resilience funds, granted to member states by the EU, are directed towards digitalising and innovating various sectors, among which the healthcare sector. Therefore, discussions are taking place at national level on how to transform the healthcare sector and best implement innovative technologies for health.
The main objectives for 2023 include:
- Design a sustainability strategy to progress the Council forward, the strategy will include including new members and identifying ways to engage with partners and sponsors
- Re-focus the discussion on the EHDS and other emerging regulations/topics that will impact health data, for instance the AI act or ALTAI methodology or similar
- “Scale-in” and actualise the recommendations of the Council at country level, engaging with local policy makers and aiming at making a difference in translating EU policies at national level
