Biographies

Elena Bonfiglioli

As leader for Microsoft Health and Life Sciences business across the EMEA region, Elena Bonfiglioli is responsible for partnerships, commercial go-to-market strategy and execution across public health organizations, payors and pharma. A signature outcome of her work – together with a core team across engineering and research – was the design and launch of the AI partnership with Novartis in 2019 and the AI for Leprosy initiative with Novartis Foundation.  Bonfiglioli co-chaired the Health Cloud Council for Microsoft and partners from 2015-2019. She led the initiative on secondary use of health data and championed the work on data collaboratives, leading to the creation of the first global data collaborative in cardiovascular population health. Bonfiglioli has been working in the health sector for 15+ years, first in health policy at EU level and then as regional business leader in the global healthcare team. In July 2017, Bonfiglioli was elected to the HIMSS Europe Governing Council. In 2020 she was nominated one of the top 50 AI Innovators by Intelligent Health.

 

Ricard Martinez

Ricard Martinez Martinez is an associate Professor in the Department of Constitutional Law and Political Science at the University of Valencia. There he also acts as Academic Delegate of the Rectorate on Data Protection, and head of professorship of Privacy and Digital Transformation. He is part of the Work Group for Digital Rights of Citizens organised by the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda. He coordinates another Work Group established by the Spanish Conference of University Rectors to bolster the new Data Protection Legislation. Head of Area of Transparency and Open Government (Diputación de Valencia).

 

Tjade Stroband

Tjade Stroband is Director for Artificial Intelligence Policy at Microsoft’s European Government Affairs office in Brussels. Prior to joining Microsoft, Tjade has over fifteen years of multi-institutional public sector experience, working on competition, internal market and digital policies, both at national and EU level. He holds a MSc in Business Economics from the University of Amsterdam.

 

Benjamin Baelus

Benjamin is Director Government Affairs for Microsoft Belgium and Luxembourg, with extensive experience working across government, politics, and industry.
At Microsoft, he leads on government relations, public policy and advocacy, and Microsoft’s engagement within various trade associations. Before joining Microsoft, Benjamin held government affairs positions with local, regional and global scopes at several multinational pharma companies.
Prior to joining the private sector, Benjamin worked at the European Parliament, the cabinet of a former Minister of Justice and the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU.
A Belgian national, Benjamin holds degrees in Comparative and International Politics (MA, KU Leuven), European Public Affairs (MA, Maastricht University) and International Business and Management (MS, KU Leuven).

Stefano Sedola

More than 20 years strategic consulting for major multilateral donors (e.g European Commission, UN).  As chief technical advisor for the UN and business development director for international consulting firms, he facilitated and succeeded structural and policy reforms in several countries across the world (e.g. Eastern Europe, North Africa, Middle East, Africa, Asia). He is currently, as partner of Stratejai,  advising several organisations and governments in drafting and implementing their AI policies and data driven journeys. Stefano is also a member of GAIA X healthcare working group.

Andrea Pescino

More than 20 years’ experience in leading multidisciplinary teams in digital transformation projects and AI adoption  in private, public and NGOs sectors. Participated in several projects in the field of Artificial Intelligence in a prominent leading role (e.g. entrepreneur, Team leader, advisor, researcher)More than 20 years practical experience in setting up the technical infrastructure  for the development and use of AI systems focusing on cognitive computing, data analytics (including sentiment analysis), Internet of things, Smart Working, Big Data Analytics and Cloud Transformation.Wrote several articles and papers in the field of AI (more on the blog- http://andreapescino.com). Andrea is also a member of GAIA X healthcare working group.

Tineke Van hooland

Tineke Van hooland is founder and CEO of epic 10. She is also Deputy Secretary General at bio.be/essenscia and chairs the National Association’s Council at Europabio. Prior to founding epic 10, Tineke has held several leadership positions in biopharmaceutical companies at corporate level over the past 16 years. She has an in-depth expertise in the domains of Governmental Affairs, ,Health Policy and Patient Advocacy. Tineke graduated with High Distinction as Industrial Pharmacist from Ghent University in 2003. She is known for her dynamic and no-nonsense approach. Tineke is also a female leadership advocate and has authored a number of opinion pieces on sustainable health policy and empowering women.

Martin Canter

Martin Canter is an AI and Data Expert at FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute, in Brussels. He leads the Smart Region Hub team, focusing on research and public administration partnerships. His main areas of focus are Digital Twins, and Regulatory Aspects of Artificial Intelligence in the EU ecosystem. Previously, Martin worked as Head of Ethical AI at Omina Technologies, empowering companies with trustworthy AI through responsible practices and explainable/transparent algorithms.

Sophie Tomlinson

Sophie Tomlinson is the Director of Partnerships & Communications at the Datasphere Initiative. She is an experienced policy communications professional with a background in technology policy, international trade and development.

Joining the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network to oversee communications and outreach in 2019, Sophie previously worked as Deputy Director, Global Policy at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) where she led work on sustainable development, digital transformation and stakeholder engagement. Managing ICC’s digital economy policy work between 2015-2018, Sophie developed policy and communication strategies to advance global business perspective on issues from Internet and telecoms, to privacy and data protection as well as cybersecurity, emerging technology and digital trade.

Prior to joining ICC Sophie worked in Westminster at the Airport Operators Association. Sophie holds a Master of Social Science in International Public Policy, University College London, United Kingdom and studied English Literature to earn her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Sussex.

Leonor Cerdá Alberich

PhD in Physics from the University of Valencia and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland. Director of Computing and AI at the Biomedical Imaging Research Group of the La Fe Health Research Institute (Valencia). PI of a public-private research project focused on advanced MRI and AI techniques for the rapid diagnosis of prostate cancer.
She develops AI algorithms for the extraction of imaging biomarkers, tumor detection and segmentation, synthetic data generation, and prediction of relevant clinical outcomes. She participates in and leads working groups in European projects on medical imaging, AI, and oncology. The most recent is EUCAIM, the European federated infrastructure for cancer imaging, contributing to the sustainable creation of the European Health Data Space.
With extensive experience in managing technical projects, mentoring, and supervising master’s and doctoral theses, both in Europe and in Africa, as well as scientific outreach, she currently supervises 3 doctoral theses in medical imaging and AI. She is the author of over 780 publications with an h-index of 149 and has more than 78,000 citations.
